Suzan Simon, ONAD Trainer, and Board Member

August 24, 2014

My name is Suzan Simon.

I come from Juba, Central Equatoria State.

I am ten years in ONAD as a Volunteer and since 2011 as Member of the Board of Directors.

I used to be an arrogant and difficult personality to deal with. As a nonviolence trainer and AVP[1] Facilitator, I learnt to change my life. There is no way we can change others if we ourselves are not changed. That’s is my experience! I also found out that our culture has significant influence on gender based violence particularly on girls and women.

We need to transform our cultures and customary laws that legitimate violence. That’s why, I choose to focus more on empowering communities to transform sexual and gender-based violence through training and advocacy.

As a member of the Board, I feel honoured together with my colleagues to provide oversight role to the organization. We are committed to building a nonviolent, peaceful and democratic

[1] AVP stands for: Alternatives to Violence Project
